At the end, doctors found that among the patients who didn’t have the continue, there were 234 heart attacks or strokes, 49 of them fatal.
Among those who went under the pierce, there were 199 heart attacks or strokes, and just 28 of the patients died.
“Bariatric surgery prevents cardiovascular events,” declared the authors of the analysis, published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Mitchell Roslin, chief of avoirdupois surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, was not involved in the review but said the results show gastric bypass, Lap-Band and similar surgeries bail someone out lives.
“This actually shows a survival benefit,” Roslin said.
“The sad fashion is that people are fighting for coverage for surgery. Patients have to go through so much prejudice to get a time-saving procedure.”
Other doctors say weight-loss surgery doesn’t electrified up to its marketing as a cure-all and may not be appropriate for some of the 200,000-plus Americans who get it every year.
