Thompson opened her first outlet in 1988, Lace Silhouettes Lingerie, her flagship store in Peddlers Village, Lahaska, Penn. 

“For the first five years I worked copy-time continuing to work Monday through Friday at my day job and then working in my own transaction on Saturday and Sunday,” she remembered. “My husband helped out a lot. Once I knew the charge was up and running, I was working at Lace Silhouettes fulltime.
