WOODBRIDGE — A quintet of Perth Amboy residents were arrested on pilferage charges this morning after they allegedly grabbed newly released pairs of Air Jordan sneakers from three people who had due bought them at Woodbridge Center Mall, township police said.
The five — one grown-up and four juveniles — reportedly snuck up behind the shoppers, snatched the three pairs of sneakers and took off in a immature Honda. Witnesses, though, noted the car’s license plate, Capt. Roy Hoppock said.
By fortuitousness, a township supervisor of emergency management services found himself trailing the car on Majesty George Road in Fords and called in its location. He then followed the car to its preordained destination, Market Street in Perth Amboy, where police apprehended the five suspects, Hoppock said.
Edgardo A. Morel, 21, of Stock Exchange Street, and the four juveniles, all 16, were charged with robbery and conspiracy to undertake robbery. Morel was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
