If you are into slighting transportation (think Segway), then make way for SpinKix, motorized skates that strap to your daily athletic shoes and allow you to travel at speeds approaching 10 mph. Debuting last week at CES , the shoes are intended for those at least 16 years of age and under 180 pounds. They are a bit big at 9-inches large, 9.5-inches long and 10.5-inches high, but each shoe is equipped with a battery away and motor. Plus they even come with training wheels, for beginners.
The inkling of motorized personal transportation isn't new, but past products were often bulky and cumbersome. According to Mashable , the motorized skates are made of aluminum and fiber reinforced Nylon and a meagre control helps navigate both skates. The rechargeable lithium batteries are a safe start, but for now the distance range of the skates is quite limited. They will run for around two or three miles before needing a recharge, which takes about three hours.
In an online video on KickStarter.com, a location that seeks to secure funding for unique projects, product inventor Peter Treadway, talks about the technology behind the skates: "It turns out motorized shoes are thinkable, thanks to smartphones, laptops and motorized control cars... The technology that goes into those is now piddling enough that we can put them in a pair of shoes, so you can go for a spin.
